Actions around the World Cup 2006

With the FIFA World Cup 2006 taking place in Germany, the CCC took the lead in organizing a number of actions. On May 11, a protest action was organized at the German Headquarters of Adidas at their annual stakeholders meeting. Dressed in red and with the slogan "Ich bin rot vor Wut!" (I am red of anger), protesters loudly draw attention to the poor working conditions at factories that supply Adidas. 12 CCC supporters attended the meeting, 4 of them held speeches and criticised the poor wages and labour law violations at the Hermsoa factory in El Salvador (more info on Hermosa elsewhere on this website (http://www.cleanclothes.org/companies/adidas.htm).

Insufficient wages

A press release by the German CCC draw attention to the low wages paid to sportswear workers. Research by the Christian initiative Romero (CIR) in El Salvador and Honduras and SÜDWIND Instituts für Ökonomie und Ökumene in Indonesia prove that wages are insufficient to cover workers' daily needs. On May 19th, a nation-wide protest took place in Cologne. In the city-center a theatre was organized to illustrate the unfair play with sewers. In Hanover and Dortmund protest actions draw attention to the working conditions behind the advertisement slogans. In the morning there was a press conference with a dismissed adidas female worker.
